The part above is a processing tray for Optima Battery. It was designed to hold up to 200 lbs. across a 40" span at up to 200° F for 20 hours and not deflect more than .100".
This specification was met by employing the inherent strength of the twin-sheet thermoforming process and the beams that are a normal aspect of that technique. The material is an ABS/Polycarbonate blend that demonstrates very high flexural modulus and heat deflection temperature.
To further ensure minimal deflection, 2 steel rectangular bars are "insert-molded" in the part during the forming operation, as displayed in Inserts #1 & #2. They have been encapsulated by the plastic to ensure maximum strength. Insert #3 shows the suspension features of the part where it hangs from a mounting pin on either side of the chain driven oven transport conveyor. The two plates on the bottom of the part are wear plates made from Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene and are designed for easy replacement.
